S E E K I N G    Q U E E N   C O N T E S T A N T S 

 

The Jackson County Fair Association is now accepting applications for the Jackson County Fairy Queen to represent this year’s fair. The contestants must be at least 16 years of age but not more than 21 years of age on August 8, the first day of the 2024 Iowa State Fair AND be a resident of Jackson County, Iowa.  The selection process is done with candidates’ submitting a resume, a 250-500 word description of whom they are and why they want to be the fair queen and a recent picture to the Fair Office by July 12. The next step will then be a 10 minute interview and social with the Fair Board on Monday, July 15th starting at 5pm.  Announcement and crowning of the Fair Queen will  be Sunday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m. in Pearson. The public is invited to attend.  There is no admission charge.  Come for the breakfast and stay for the announcement and crowing of the fair queen.

Official Rules:​​

  1. Each contestant must be at least 16 years of age and not more than 21 years of age on August 8, the first day of the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

  2. Contestants must never have been married or have had children.

  3. A county fair queen must reside in the county she represents or an adjoining county if the majority of her activities are in the county she represents.  If a fair represents more than one county, the winning contestant must reside in one of the participating counties.

  4. Each contestant must be an active member of at least one service organization in her community such as a church group, Girl Scouts, 4-H, etc.(Eligibility is not limited to 4-H membership)

  5. No professional model (one who has had ongoing employment in which modeling was the primary part of the job) is eligible to compete in the state pageant.

  6. Any contestant who has competed at a State Fair Finals may not compete again.

  7. Any county fair queen selected after the 2023 Iowa State Fair and meeting the above qualifications is eligible for the 2024 pageant.

  8. The County Fair Queen must fully commit to the responsibilities of being the County Fair Queen,  including full participation in the Iowa State Fair Queen Competition.

  9. The county queens will be the guests of the Iowa State Fair through the time of the crowning, Wednesday, August 7th through the time of the crowning, Saturday evening August 10th, 2024. Expenses at State Fair will be paid by Jackson County Fair Association.

  10. The Jackson County Fair Queen will receive $300.00.  The Princess will receive $200.00. The second runner-up will receive $100.00 and Miss Congeniality will receive $100.00.  Scholarship monies compliments of the Jackson County Fair Board.

  11. All Jackson County Fair Queen candidates must participate in the Jackson County Fair Parade on Tuesday, July 23 at 6:00 p.m.  All candidates must assist at the July 26 and July 27 Music Nights.

  12. Selection process of the 2024 Fair Queen will begin with 10 minute interviews on Monday, July 15 at 5 p.m. at the Fair Board office.  The interviews will be conducted by a panel of three judges.

  13. Announcement and crowning of the Fair Queen will  be Sunday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m. in Pearson. The public is invited to attend.  There is no admission charge.  Come for the breakfast and stay for the announcement and crowing of the fair queen.
